Parmalee House
In 1940 the Bullocks moved to the Parmalee house on West Main Street in East Bloomfield. Shortly after moving Homer took a job in a furniture factory in Rochester, NY.
This photo of the Parmalee house was taken in about 1940. The large Vera Page Canton house is in the background to the right. The Canton barn is to the left in the background. The dining/living room was on the first floor in the middle of the house. Homer and Mary's bedroom was directly above the dining/living room. The parlor was on the first floor to right and the boys' (Bob, Cal, and Paul) room was above the parlor. The kitchen was on the first floor to the left and Ruth's bedroom was directly above it. The bathroom was next to Ruth's room and Phil's small bedroom was at the top of the stairs. There was another room on the first floor under Phil's bedroom. This house had electricity and indoor plumbing. There was a small building to the rear of the house that included a garage.
This photo of the Parmalee house was taken in about 1943. Homer and Mary's bedroom was to the left on the second floor and the dining/living room was below on the first floor. The boys' bedroom was to the right and the parlor was below it. The Canton barn can be seen on the far right and Pennell's garage, on Route 5 and 20, can be seen in the background on the far left. Clothes are drying on the clothes lines at the rear left and one of the boys' bikes can be seen on the left.
This is the same view of the house as above but taken by Phil in the 1990s. The Canton ice house can be seen to the rear right.
Another view of the Parmalee house taken by Phil in the 1990s. The Canton house can be seen to the right in the background. A much larger horse chestnut tree is in front of the house.
Homer is walking from the garage to the rear door of the Parmalee house in about 1943. The Canton barn can be seen in the background.
Cal, Bob, Homer, and Paul are standing in front of the Parmalee house in about 1943.
Cal is standing on West Main Street facing the Parmalee house in about 1943. Hy Page's peach orchard and chicken coop can be seen in the background.
Paul is spraying the potato plants in the Bullock's victory garden in about 1943. Mrs. Fanny Norton's house is in the background and her garage can be seen in the far right of the photo. Mrs. Norton let the Bullocks use her property to expand their garden. The Bullock boys mowed her lawn for many years.
Paul is giving Gene "Two Gun" Mowry a ride on his bike in about 1942. Beyond the spreading horse chestnut tree across East Main Street is Hy Page's chicken coop, barn, and house. Note the basket on the bike for delivering papers.
The Bullock family posed for this photo in their side yard facing the Parmalee house in about 1941. They are: Phil, Bob, Ruth, and Homer with Cal and Paul standing in front. Mom took the photo.
This photo of Mom in her garden was taken in about 1943.
