Bullock Home in Holcomb

The Bullocks purchased the Rubinstein property in Holcomb in 1944.  This was the first home that they had ever owned.

This photo was taken in about 1944 after a good snowfall.  The house faces north is on the south side of East Main Street in Holcomb.  There were three bedrooms on the second floor.  The front bedroom, to the left, was used by Cal and Paul.  Ruth's bedroom was in the rear to the left and Bob's was in the rear to the right (see the small window over bay window.  The room in the front right was formerly a bathroom and was, at the time, part of the upstairs hall.  Phil was in the Army when the Bullocks moved in.  The living room was in the front right and the parlor was in the front left on the first floor.  Homer and Mary's bedroom was downstairs off the living room.  The dining room was in the rear attachment in from the side porch.  The kitchen was in back of the dining room.  The barn can be seen to the right in the rear.

Another view of the Bullock home in Holcomb taken in 1944.  Homer and Mary's bedroom was off the left window on the first floor.  Ruth's bedroom was above Homer and Mary's.

A view of the rear of the home was also taken in 1944.  The door in the back leads to the kitchen and the dining room was through the side porch door.

This photo of the barn was taken in 1946 or 1947.  Lined up are Phil's Indian motorcycle, Phil's 1934 Plymouth, Pete's Nash, and Bob's 1929 Dodge.  Homer's shop was in the lower level of the barn.  Homer still had some of the wood he brought back from the Isle of Pines, Cuba in 1924.  It was stored in the second floor of the barn.

This photo of the Bullock property was taken from the south from the air in about 1947.  The rear of the house and barn, with shop addition, can be seen in the center of the photo.  Homer's bee hives can be seen as small white dots across the lower part of the photo.  Ben Eckler's house and trucking company can be seen to the far right.  The Barden barn can be seen just below the tip of the wing.  Phil took this photo from Charlie Nearing's plane.

This photo was taken from the north.  The front of the Bullock house and the barn can be seen.  The triangular shaped orchard property in the rear stretches out to the railroad tracks; four acres in all.  Mom's future house is in the center partially hidden by the wing strut.

Homer died in 1957.  Family, relatives, and friends gathered at the Bullock home after the funeral.  Mom, in a dark dress, is seated in a circle of ladies.

When Mom moved across East Main Street, she sold the property to Dick Rayburn.  This photo was taken by Phil in the 1990s.

A 1990s photo of side of the house is shown here.

This 1990s photo shows the barn in back of the house.

The area within the green lines is the 4 acres that Homer and Mary purchased from Rubenstein in 1944 and sold to Dick Rayburn in 1958.  Dick build these apartment buildings on the property.
